Once a week, post a famous quote on the board. Students
are to write the quote in a designated part of a notebook (i.e. last
four pages of a journal). Discuss the meaning of the quote and its signifigance to
their lives. Write responses may also be completed.
Students are to memorize the quote to recite back word for word in 5 days (depending on the length of the quote). At the beginning of the year, I have students recite the quote quietly just to me. This relieves any anxiety. By January, I have students recite the quote to their cooperative groups. In April, the quotes are recited to the class. My students love this activity!!!
