Preposterous Pictures

Give your students a lesson in word usage while offering them the chance to be a bit silly. Share examples of commonly misused word pairs such as ant/aunt, bare/bear, and road/rode. Then have students brainstorm other misused word pairs while you record their responses on a piece of chart paper. Next give each student an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of white paper and assign him a word pair from the list. Challenge the student to write a silly sentence and draw a silly picture that illustrates the correct use of the words. Post the captioned pictures for all to enjoy.
