Re-tell A Story

Have books at this center that are about a series of events--a good book is "Harry the Dirty Dog" by Gene Zion. "Comet's Nine Lives" by Jan Brett works well also.

Students should pick one of the books to read and try to remember the order of events and some of the particular actions that occurred. They should then retell the story in their own words, recalling as many details as they can without looking at the book.

You can also have younger students retell the story into a tape recorder and compare their memory with the book.
