Traditions, Traditions!

A fun idea for Thanksgiving that I have done for years is an interview
about traditions. The students interview an elderly relative or neighbor
about  how they used to prepare for Thanksgiving ( quite a few get
information about killing and plucking the bird which is a real eye-opener)
and then they interview their Mom or other person about how they prepare
Thanksgiving today. These interviews lend themselves to a wonderful lesson
on writing compare and contrast essays. Those who are from other countries
select a holiday that they have to do the interviews. Many call or e-mail
relatives to interview them.

These are fascinating to share.
