Using Your Noodle: Quotation Marks

Submitted by: Lisa Burkhart

I find that my students love to use the elbow macaroni when practicing correct quotation mark placement.  Have them copy sentences on sentence strip paper with correct punctuation.  Then, glue macaroni where the quotation marks should be.  My students also like to use different shaped pasta (curly rotini, orzo, ditalini) for the punctuation marks other than quotation marks.  Try using the alphabet noodles for other writing activities--use colored paper/construction paper behind the letters.

Have fun using your noodles!!!!!!
