Art as you go!

I love to use newspapers in the classroom and was taught a new idea this summer at a workshop. We did this with playdoh and had a blast. The activity is called Art as you go! (using newspapers and play doh or model clay)
Select a news or feature story to read to the class. Read the story aloud. Have students draw, paint, or sculpt something representing the event as you read the story to them.
Alternatives Have students read a news story on their own and make some sort of illustration to accompany the story. They then will present their illustration to the group and explain how this ties into the story read.
