Assign each part of speech a color.
Nouns-Red
Adjectives-Orange
Verbs-Green
Adverbs-blue
Articles-Yellow
Prepositions-Purple
Post the colors that are to be used in the front of the room.
In their Daily Oral Language sentences they highlight each part of speech using a highlighter, crayons, or colored pencils. My kids really learned their Parts of Speech using this method.
This activity could be extended to Types of Sentences also. Declarative sentences can be circled with red. Exclamatory sentences circled with blue. Interrogative sentences circled with green. Imperative sentences circled with yellow. A sentence fragment circled with black.
This makes their Daily Oral Language book quite colorful and makes it fun to do this daily, but very important, task.
