Story Chains for Bulletin Boards
Submitted by: Diane Bootie
Story Chains are a fun way for students to demonstrate that they have acquired the ability to retell a story, sequence the actions in a story, or to summarize the plot of a story. Assign a story, novel, or text selection for students to read. Prepare numerous 1" by 81/2" white or pastel-colored paper strips. Distribute 11 strips to each student. On the first strip students write Title and Author of the selection. On the remaining strips they should write one or two sentences detailing main ideas or important events from the story. When the strips are finished they should be stapled or glued together into an interlocking chain, similar to a holiday paper chain. Use the chains to decorate a bulletin board with a title.
